Beehive has more on its mind than mere hairspray. The changing social climate, the women's' rights movement, the anti-Vietnam war protests - all that is sketched into these most entertaining 90-plus minutes.

The revue, created by the late Larry Gallagher, presents songs made popular by the ladies of pop and rock. The numbers are presented chronologically, with the first half featuring such innocent and frivolous hits as "The Name Game", "My Boyfriend's Back", and "It's My Party", as well as tunes from the women who were part of the British invasion. Music reflecting the social consciousness of our world following the assassination of JFK, the growing civil rights movement, and the escalation in Vietnam dominates the latter portion of the show. The changes in the style and messages of songs during this period are effectively shown through dialogue interwoven into "The Beat Goes On".

Beehive, however, isn't just a straightforward presentation of the music of a generation. In most cases, the songs are performed by actresses portraying the artists that made them popular. Leslie Gore, The Supremes, Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark, Tina Turner, and Janis Joplin are just a few of the ladies who are represented in the musical.

BRADFORD T. KENNEY (Executive Artistic Director) is thrilled to join such an outstanding staff and Board of Directors in shepherding the Ogunquit Playhouse through one of the most exciting times in the history of both the Playhouse and Ogunquit itself. As the Artistic Director at the Foothills Theatre in Worcester, Massachusetts, he oversaw such productions as: Miss Saigon, Disney's Beauty & the Beast, Cabaret (National Regional Premiere), Dick and Jimmy Van Patten in The Sunshine Boys, I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change (Regional Premiere) and Ragtime. He is Co-Founder of the Wachusett Theatre Company in Massachusetts which produced: The Sound of Music, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Angela Williams in Aida (Northeast Regional Premiere), Ted Lange in Damn Yankees and Eddie Mekka in Fiddler on the Roof. Mr. Kenney’s productions have been nominated for five Independent Reviewers of New England Awards. In addition to his production credits, Brad was named one of Worcester’s top business and community leaders by the Worcester Business Journal and is listed in Who’s Who. Performance credits include: the title role in Gilbert & Sullivan's The Sorcerer, Salisbury Lyric Opera; Iolanthe (Strephon), Savoyard Light Opera; Carousel (Billy Bigelow); Titanic (Barrett the Stoker); Company (Bobby); Guys and Dolls (Sky Masterson); The King and I (King); Hello, Dolly (Cornelius). He dedicates this time in the theatre to the memory of Ryan Curtis.

KIMBERLY A. STARLING (Associate Artistic Director) arrived in 2001 as the Box Office/Subscription Manager but was so involved with the operations of the Playhouse, she was named the Director of Operations by the end of that year. A native of Rollinsford, New Hampshire, Kim attended Plymouth State College in the White Mountains. She became Box Office Manager at the Palace Theatre in Manchester, New Hampshire which led to a five year stint as the Front of House & Audience Services Manager at the Emerson Majestic Theatre in Boston. Next, Kim returned to her beloved White Mountains as the Managing Director at the North Country Center for the Arts. Missing her family and friends brought her back to the Seacoast. Kim's most important role in life is sister, niece, daughter, granddaughter, cousin and most especially aunt to a crazy clan in Dover, New Hampshire; she enjoys travel to her homeland of Northern Ireland.

RUSSELL GARRETT (Director/Choreographer) is excited to be back at the Ogunquit Playhouse where he performed in the 1990 production of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (Caleb). Mr. Garrett is the current Artistic Director at the Foothills Theatre Company in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he has overseen this season’s critical successes Evita, Tuesdays with Morrie, The Full Monty and the smash hits The Underpants and Beehive, which he also directed. As a director/choreographer he has staged shows all over the country including popular and critically acclaimed productions of Smokey Joe’s Café, Ain’t Misbehavin’, Pageant, Kiss Me, Kate, Anything Goes, Beauty and the Beast and Chicago. As an actor, he has appeared in the Broadway and/or National Tour productions of The Scarlet Pimpernel, Show Boat, 42nd Street, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and A Chorus Line as well as numerous Off-Broadway, Regional and Stock productions. Coming up, Mr. Garrett will be back here at the Ogunquit Playhouse appearing as Ernst Ludvig in Cabaret, and later this summer, he will be directing the Foothills Theatre’s opening show, The Rocky Horror Show.

SEAN MARTIN (Set Designer) is delighted to be working again on Beehive! with Russell Garrett, particularly at such a historic theatre. A former professor of scenic design at Guilford College, recent work includes: The Sound of Music, Sandersville Summer Theatre; Jekyll & Hyde, Glove Theatre; The Daughter of the Regiment, Todi Music Festival; Marisol, Guilford College; Peter Pan, Greensboro Community Theatre. This summer, he worked on productions in Toronto, Paris and Glasgow. Sean lives in the tiny burg of Whitsett, North Carolina, with his partner Scott and a dozen cats, none of whom understand the importance of closing the gate at night.

JEFF ADELBERG (Lighting Designer) lives and works in Boston, where recent designs include: The Full Monty and Beehive!, Foothills Theatre; Heading For Eureka, CentaStage; Hiding Behind Comets and Flesh and Blood, Zeitgeist Stage Co.; Better Off Dead, Village Theatre Project; Seven Rabbits, Stoneham; As You Like It and UBU 1977, Concord Academy; The King Stag, Boston College. He teaches all aspects of theatre lighting at Boston College and has also worked in Opera. STEVEN ESPACH (Production Stage Manager) is a proud to be a member of Actors’ Equity Association, this is his first foray at the Ogunquit Playhouse. As the Production Stage Manager at the Foothills Theatre in Worcester, he has stage managed over 40 productions in the past five years. One of those productions in Spring 2004, provided Mr. Espach the opportunity to be the first stage manager in the United States, outside of Broadway and two National Tours, to work on the Sam Mendes/Rob Marshall production of Cabaret along side director B.T. McNicholl. In past summers Mr. Espach has been a Stage Manager at the New Century Theatre in Northampton, Massachusetts, where he will return after Cabaret.
